Praise the Lord for the success of the Paranan Language Congress held at Palanan Central School last October 30,2012. This was to inform DepEd officials that the orthography used by Bible translators have gone through the proper orthro development and community testing and have been approved by TAP (Translators Association of the Philippines) as the standard or established orthography. It was attended by 137 people including the LGU officials, DepEd principals and teachers, Barangay Officials, Day Care Representatives and the Paranan Bible Translation Advisory Council.
Highlights of program were the following:
- Mrs. Herminia V. Balagan, Chairman of the Paranan Advisory Council talked about the importance of the Paranan dialect and the written word of God in their own language
- Mrs. Genalyn Bulan, one of the Bible translators shared the history of the Paranan Bible translation
- The main lecturer, Mrs. Racquel Mijares, TAP field linguist, spoke about Orthogarphy development
- Presentation of the Paranan Orthography was done by yours truly (Arnold Alvarez), team leader of the Paranan Bible Translation Project
The audience got actively involved in the discussion part of the program. DepEd people appreciated this congress and sees the orthography material to be helpful as they will develop books for kinder to grade 3 level. Paranan Bibles, Paranan Songs in CD's, Jesus film, Literacy materials and other reading materials were also sold after the fellowship lunch with all those who attended this activity.
